This company was rapidly growing and entering new lines of
business in the real estate industry.
PeopleSoft Financials had been selected as the backbone system;
at the same time, process improvements and organizational
design efforts were ongoing in the Finance area, to cope with
the growth and the new status as a NYSE company.
Morningtons role was to lead the project, providing
project management, systems design and business process improvement
and finance organization skills, and to provide an analysis
of the redesign of the hardware and telecommunications approaches.
The project consisted of the Peoplesoft Implementation, to
be executed over 8 weeks; and the Business Process Improvement
phase, which was planned to span 4 weeks to start the project,
and 9 months for follow up and assistance. Mornington reviewed
the readiness of the PeopleSoft implementation and coached
the external reporting group. We also guided the transition
of the ownership of the financial reporting applications to
a new Controller. Mornington conducted a design review and
expanded the design to cover complex, industry-specific reporting,
and we prepared a master plan for the Finance business process
improvement project. Our next mission was to assist the Chief
Financial Officer in getting Executive and Board approval;
and to train the new Director heading this project and his
staff. Mornington assisted the Business Process Improvement
project team in the areas of change management, benchmarking,
best practices identification and implementation.
The first phase of the project was concluded. The client
has successfully implemented Peoplesoft financials and can
support both internal and external financial reporting. The
Business Process Improvement project has successfully started,
and the project ongoing.
