The company had begun its Year 2000 effort, including some
work on assessment, inventory and coding, but needed to apply
formal project methodology, strengthen software change control
and testing environments, provide organized reporting to board
of directors and SEC. The company has a multi-platform application
environment, point-of-sale systems in 400+ stores internationally,
and several concurrent development projects in addition to
the Y2K remediation efforts.
Morningtons role was to provide overall management
of the IT project, reporting to the Chief Information Officer.
We identified gaps in the plan, with a focus on resource requirements
- people, time and money needed - to execute the Information
Technology portion of the Client's Y2K efforts. We worked
closely with Internal Audit, who is responsible for the entire
Y2K effort (including work with suppliers and customers, disclosure,
etc.).
Mornington provided overall project management for the Y2K
effort, including the completion of the Planning/Awareness
and Assessment/Inventory phases; the oversight of the Remediation,
Validation and Implementation phases; and the development
and maintenance of internal project plans. We provided communication
and presentation materials to help integrate the MIS Y2K effort
the company's enterprise-level planned, and we identified
issues as they arose with recommended solution alternatives.
Mornington also helped to link mission-critical processes
with their related systems to insure that the Y2K remediation
efforts were correctly prioritized.
